Smoke Detection Cockpit Smoke and Fumes
Thursday, October 8th, 2009The airworthiness concern is not an unsafe condition that would warrant
airworthiness directive (AD) action under Title 14 of the Code of Federal
Regulations (14 CFR) Part 39.
This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin is being issued to alert
owners, operators, and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to an
airworthiness concern regarding emergency checklist procedures that apply to
ventilating smoke and fumes from the airplane cockpit in general aviation
(GA) aircraft.
After an in-flight electrical fire in a Canadian-registered Cessna Model152
airplane, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada recommended that the
“FAA take action to review checklist procedures dealing with smoke and fire
in GA aircraft,” and include additional steps to eliminate smoke or fumes.
