FAA Reauthorization and you…

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

To buy time for potentially difficult negotiations on the broad FAA bill, the House passed a three-month extension Wednesday morning that will keep aviation programs running through July 3.

One major component that could affect you if you are trying to become a professional pilot is the measure requiring every pilot wanting an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate to have among other things, 1,500 hours of flight time versus only 250 hours currently required for a commercial airline as well as the increase on taxes on jet fuel…

Ecplise is back or is it? When?

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

I must say it was Airventure 1998 and the new 6 seat jet for $835,000 was announced.  I was flying high in business, the dotcom boom was in full swing and everyone was ready to buy.  Well the eclipse did get built, props to Van Rayburn for getting it done.  Unfortunately like much of the rest of our current economic melt down, Eclipse felt the pressure of not only the economy, but some things done wrong compounding their situation.

I must say it was a sad day for me when I realize that my best hope for a ‘personal’ jet died the day Eclipse when into liquidation, but according to a recent article in AviationWeek my hope to someday own and fly an eclipse jet may be back on the horizon!

Man Jogging Killed by Aircraft

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Yeah sounds crazy, but a guy was killed last Monday, March 15, when he was struck by an aircraft while jogging along a beach on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Apparently according to his mother he was jogging with his ipod on and the aircraft hit him as he couldn’t hear or apparently hear the engineless aircraft coming at him. I mean I get scared I am not paying attention when I run or bike with my ipod on, but who would have thought of jogging on a beach?! Reference Billy Tubbs Feb 21, 1983 accident while jogging with headphones on.
