AD on Stabilizers for Viking DHC3 Airplanes

Friday, August 29th, 2014

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive 2014-17-01 (AD) for Viking Air Limited Model DHC-3 airplanes. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as looseness of the horizontal stabilizer actuator mounting block in the forward-aft and side-to-side directions. They are issuing this AD to require actions to address the unsafe condition on these products. DATES: This AD is effective September 16, 2014. pdf icon 2014-17-01.pdf

AD to Supersede Previous AD on Wings for Air Tractor AT802

Friday, August 29th, 2014

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2010-17-18 R1, which applies to certain Air Tractor, Inc. Models AT-802 and AT-802A airplanes. AD 2010-17-18 R1 required repetitively inspecting (using the eddy current method) the two outboard fastener holes in both of the wing main spar lower caps at the center splice joint for cracks; repairing or replacing any cracked spar; changing the safe life for certain serial number ranges; and sending the inspection results, only if cracks are found, to the FAA. This new AD retains all actions of AD 2010-17-18 R1 and expands the applicability to include all serial numbers regardless of configuration or operational use. This AD was prompted by our determination that the safe life for the wing main spar lower caps should apply to all Models AT-802 and AT-802A airplanes regardless of configuration or operational use. They are issuing this AD to correct the unsafe condition on these products. DATES: This AD is effective September 29, 2014. pdf icon 2014-16-17.pdf

AD on 2nd stage low-pressure turbine blades for Honeywell Engines

Friday, June 27th, 2014

Emergency airworthiness directive (AD) 2014-12-52 is sent to owners and operators of Honeywell International Inc. (Type Certificate previously held by AlliedSignal Inc., Garrett Turbine Engine Company) TFE731-4, -4R, -5AR, -5BR, -5R, -20R, -20AR, -20BR, -40, -40AR, -40R, -40BR, -50R, and -60 turbofan engines. This emergency AD was prompted by reports of 2nd stage low-pressure turbine (LPT2) blade separations. Analysis indicates the presence of casting anomalies at or near the root of the LPT2 blade. This condition, if not corrected, could result in LPT2 blade failure, multiple engine in-flight shutdowns, and damage to the airplane. pdf icon 2014-12-52_Emergency.pdf

AD on Rotorcraft Tailboom for Eurocopter AS350 and AS355 Helicopters

Friday, June 27th, 2014

The FAA is publishing a new airworthiness directive 2014-07-52 (AD) for certain Airbus Helicopters (previously Eurocopter France) Model AS350B, AS350BA, AS350B1, AS350B2, AS350B3, AS350C, AS350D, AS350D1, AS355E, AS355F, AS355F1, AS355F2, AS355N, and AS355NP helicopters, which was sent previously to all known U.S. owners and operators of these helicopters. This AD requires repetitively inspecting certain reinforcement angles of the rear structure to tailboom junction frame (reinforcement angles) for a crack, and repairing any cracked reinforcement angle. This AD is prompted by a report that cracks were found in the reinforcement angles on several AS355 helicopters. These actions are intended to detect a crack in the reinforcement angle, which if not corrected, could result in loss of the tailboom and subsequent loss of control of the helicopter. DATES: This AD becomes effective June 25, 2014 to all persons except those persons to whom it was made immediately effective by Emergency AD (EAD) 2014-07-52, issued on March 28, 2014, which contained the requirements of this AD. pdf icon 2014-07-52.pdf
